Issue #1
dr1guide is proud to present dr1guide Santo Domingo: a compact tourist guide focused on where to go and what to do in our great city.
The launch of the guide follows the announcement that Santo Domingo has been named American Capital of Culture for 2010. Santo Domingo is the first Caribbean and Central American city to receive the designation that is comparative to hosting a World Expo or the Olympic Games. This year the city begins the whirlwind of preparations to showcase the event. The dr1guide to Santo Domingo is part of this effort.
The following pages highlight the aspects that make the city’s sights and culture so memorable. dr1guide Santo Domingo begins with our Top Ten list of must-see attractions. It then goes on to list the major sightseeing highlights, theaters and museums, shopping and services, dining and nightlife. Also featured are walking and transport maps, info on the capital’s closest beach & golf destinations Boca Chica, Guayacanes and Juan Dolio, along with useful information and phone numbers that may come in handy.
Best of all, our guide is part of an interactive website, dr1guide.com, featuring an events calendar, expanded content, online and downloadable versions of the guide, photo galleries and much more.
We hope our guide acts as an indispensable reference as you explore Santo Domingo by visiting our historical sites, tasting our incredible food, relaxing on our tropical beaches and experiencing the pulse of our nightlife. Remember, this is the guide “that treats you like a local.” Have it handy wherever you go and please visit our advertisers, the people who make this guide possible, and let them know you saw their ad in dr1guide Santo Domingo.

Hi again to all of you,
I wish to extend my most sincere congratulation to all the members of the “team” behind DR1, Volume One!
As a retired publisher (more than 45 years in the trade!) I can appreciate beauty and quality. I’m now traveling since 3 years (Guatemala, 14 months; Philippines, 12 months; Malaysia, 6 months; now in Vietnam since May), but I have chosen Dominican Republic to settle down, as of next February 2010 – maybe for good!
Keep-up the good work!
This is a great tool for those making a visit to the city. The layout and content is first class all the way!
One item missing in my opinion is any mention of sporting events in the city. It would have been nice to have reference information about events and venues.
Thanks for the observation. In our 2nd edition coming out in Dec. 09, we have some great content about Winter Baseball in the DR. For any events please check our calendar http://dr1guide.com/events/
